Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway
Corridor Management Plan
The Rangeley Lakes
are an historic year-round recreational area in
Maine's Western Mountains Region. Two state routes meeting in the town of
Rangeley had been designated as state scenic highways, but no specific action
had been taken to manage or promote the scenic and historic resources along
these routes.
Working with a landscape architecture firm and a regional nonprofit organization, Taintor & Associates assisted the Maine Department of Transportation and several area communities to craft a Corridor Management Plan for the combined routes, leading to their designation as the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway.

Appendices Appendix 1 presents photographs of scenic vistas and accompanying maps. Appendix 2 describes the relationship of the Corridor Management Plan to existing local planning efforts in the Towns of Rangeley, Byron and Roxbury, as well as the Land Use Regulations Commission which is responsible for land use management in the unincorporated townships and plantations along the route.
